Pornography is like an addiction: it can lead to sexual desensitization and brain shrinkage

A study has shown that when people view pornographic images, the human brain rapidly produces large amounts of the chemical dopamine (Dopamine, which is primarily responsible for the brain’s eroticism, transmitting arousal and pleasure). The continuous and repetitive production of large amounts of dopamine in the brain means that the brain’s response to dopamine becomes progressively slower. In order to achieve the same “euphoric state”, more dopamine must be produced, which means that people will gradually lose feeling for sex in general. Researchers have also found that regular viewing of pornographic literature can cause brain shrinkage.     Although pornographic pictures and movies help to stimulate your sexual desire, and many reports say that it can improve marital relationships. However, it also has a side effect that affects your health. From releasing hormones that turn people on to giving rise to addictive sexual tendencies, the effects of pornography on our brains can be frightening. A series of studies have shown that regular and excessive viewing of pornography may actually change and reshape the structure of people’s brains. 1. About pornography: The more you watch, the more you need. Having sex and watching pornography both produce dopamine, the neurotransmitter responsible for reward and pleasure. However, regular viewing of pornographic literature, and thus regular production of large amounts of dopamine by the brain, means that the brain becomes progressively dulled to the effects of dopamine. Regular viewing of pornographic literature may gradually dull the response to sexual stimulation. Researchers have found that this means that in order to feel the same “state of arousal,” the brain needs more dopamine, which causes people to watch more pornography. It’s a vicious cycle.     The dopamine spike means that pornography viewers begin to need more and more extreme sexual experiences in order to stimulate their sexuality. After viewing too many explicit images, men have become sexually frigid and less and less interested in sexual activity in general. The study concludes that pornography has created a young generation that is incompetent in bed. 2, pornography makes brain shrinkage Watching pornography may make people’s brain shrink. When people watch more pornography, the striatal region of their brain shrinks, an area associated with arousal and motivational responses. This is the first time researchers have found a possible link between regular viewing of pornography and physical damage. However, the researchers also noted that people who spend more time looking at pornography may be born with a particular kind of brain. 3, pornography addiction is similar to drug addiction When pornography addicts watch pornography, the “addiction” area of the brain becomes very active. An earlier study found that when young people obsessed with Internet pornography were allowed to view explicit images, their brains would “light up like a Christmas tree”. The stimulated area is responsible for reward, motivation and pleasure, and it is the same area of the brain that is highly active in drug and alcohol addicts. Sex addicts who started reading pornography at a very young age have three areas of the brain that are more active than the same areas of the brain of their peers who are not prone to sexual addiction. Moreover, these are the same areas of the addict’s brain that are more active. This suggests that sex addiction and drug addiction are very similar and may be related in some way.
