The headache caused by toothache is a hemilateral auriculotemporal pain, which is more common in more severe pains, such as those caused by acute pulpitis or acute pericoronitis of the wisdom teeth, which are more intense and can radiate along the trigeminal nerve towards the auriculotemporal region, causing a hemilateral head pain. The typical symptoms of acute pulpitis are paroxysmal spontaneous pain, increased pain at night, pain that is difficult to localize, and radiating pain, which often radiates to the auriculotemporal region and head, causing hemilateral head pain. The same is true for pericoronitis, which can also cause auriculotemporal radiating pain in acute septic wisdom teeth. In these cases, patients are advised to go to a professional dentist as soon as possible for symptomatic treatment.
