Can ultrasound detect cervical cancer?

Ultrasound is not able to detect cervical cancer in most cases. The examination and diagnosis of cervical cancer are mainly based on histological examination and, if necessary, pelvic magnetic examination to understand the size of tumor tissue and its relationship with surrounding tissues. Specifically, during the gynecological examination of the cervix, TCT and HPV tests will be performed, and based on the results, colposcopic cervical biopsy will be performed, or direct pathological biopsy will be performed on the suspicious cancerous lesions. Then, according to the diameter of tumor size obtained by visual inspection and, if necessary, according to the size of tumor measured by pelvic MRI, the corresponding clinical stage will be given. Therefore, ultrasound cannot detect cervical cancer in most cases, or its diagnostic value for cervical cancer is relatively low.
