Treatment for ringworm of the scalp

Tinea capitis, a fungal infection of the head, is treated with medication as important as disinfection and isolation and daily care. There are three main aspects as follows. 1. Daily life care: Cut and shampoo hair, keep it short or nearly hairless for 2 months, and cut it once a week, during which time it is shampooed once a day with antifungal drops, such as ketoconazole lotion and sulfur soap. 2.Disinfection and isolation: Towels, combs, hats, pillowcases, etc. used by the patient need to be boiled and disinfected to completely kill the spores. 3.Medication: Combined oral and topical antifungal treatment is required for tinea capitis. Oral terbinafine or itraconazole is recommended for 1 month; topical 2% tincture of iodine or terbinafine solution or ketoconazole cream is recommended for the same treatment. In case of combined pustules, surgical incision and drainage are strictly prohibited to avoid larger permanent scars. If combined with bacterial infection, add antibiotics. If inflammation is evident, prednisone may be used in small doses for a short period of time. One of the pathogens of tinea capitis, Sporotrichum, is not easy to kill completely and is highly contagious, and improper treatment can easily cause recurrent attacks, which in turn can lead to permanent hair loss. Treatment, care, and isolation, a three-pronged, comprehensive approach is the best treatment, and the effect of medication alone is limited.
