Acupuncture treatment for headache is based on the diagnosis and treatment of TCM to select acupoints. For external headache, the acupuncture points are Baihui, Hegu, Fengchi, Fengfu, Quchi, and Sun; for fever, Dazhi and Tianzhu; for vascular headache, Head Wei and Jiao Sun; for neurological headache, Fengchi and Fengfu; for blood deficiency headache, Shangqing, Blood Sea, Foot Sanli, and Sanyinjiao; for blood stasis headache, Hegu, Sanyinjiao, and also Liver Yang. If the headache is caused by hyperactivity of liver yang, the acupuncture points of hanging skull, Taichong and Xingma are usually taken.
