There are many diseases that can cause sternal pain, which may be soft tissue contusions at the sternum, sternal fractures, non-specific costochondritis, chest wall tumours, primary mediastinal tumours, tumours of the thoracic aorta, leukaemia or other malignancies. The exact disease also needs to be diagnosed based on medical history, other symptoms, signs and chest imaging.
