Men with sternal pain can be registered with orthopaedics if there is a clear history of trauma. If the sternal pain is not very severe, but there is no clear history of trauma, you can register for rheumatology, thoracic surgery or cardiology to investigate the cause. If the pain is very severe, or is accompanied by other serious symptoms and complications, immediate attention should be given to a chest pain centre or emergency department.
