How long does it take to go blind from macular degeneration?

In wet macular degeneration, recurrent hemorrhage and scar formation in the macula may occur, which may lead to rapid loss of vision and thus blindness, but the time to blindness is related to the progress of individual disease, age and the course of the disease; while dry macular degeneration has no obvious effect on vision. The prime time to treat macular degeneration is 3 months after the onset of the disease. In the early stage, due to the abnormal proliferation of blood vessels in the eye, which leads to the bleeding of blood vessels in the macula, the central vision becomes blurred and the visual objects appear distorted. As the disease progresses, vision will be seriously affected or when it causes distortion of visual objects and abnormal color vision, early surgical treatment is needed to maintain the current vision as much as possible. If the lesion persists for 3 months before treatment, the degree of vision improvement is significantly worse, and untimely treatment has a certain possibility of blindness. With the widespread use of drugs, after aggressive treatment, most patients with macular degeneration can eventually obtain effective vision and avoid blindness, and even low vision training for those with low vision can obtain effective vision and thus improve the quality of life.
