The dangers of depression

The dangers of depression – for depressed people – are best experienced – for them, depression makes them suffer beyond words. And from the sidelines, the dangers of depression are: Depressed patients are less able to function physically. Loss of work capacity is five times greater than in non-depressed patients. More than half of depressed patients who have had a relapse have completely lost their primary functional role, such as being unable to work and run a household, due to their illness. The annual loss of workforce due to depression in the United States is approximately 5 million workdays and $10 billion. The annual economic loss due to depression in the United States is $43.7 billion, with $12.4 billion in direct losses, $23.8 billion in indirect losses, and $7.5 billion in suicide losses. In England and Wales depression costs £420 million per year directly and the total cost is estimated to be over £3.5 billion per year. The economic burden of disease in China is ranked as follows: Chronic pulmonary infarction is in first place at 8.5%. Depression is second at 6.2%, cerebrovascular disease is third at 5.2% and ischemic heart disease is fourth at 2.9%. Suicidal behavior is the risk behavior of depressed patients. Suicide risk persists in 15% of patients with recurrent major depression and continues after antidepressant treatment until recovery. 30% to 70% of deaths by suicide are associated with depression; 25% of patients with primary depression eventually succeed in suicide; and two-thirds of depressed patients have suicidal ideation. Therefore, family members, friends, colleagues, and medical staff must pay close attention to suicide and prevent it from happening. The suicidal behavior of depressed patients is characterized by close planning, secrecy, and camouflage. Their suicidal behavior is mostly after careful consideration. After a fierce struggle and behavior, often before the suicide disguised as well, in front of the family and medical staff to sweep the past sighing and sad face less talk less move, become talkative, claiming that the disease has been cured, in order to make others relaxed vigilance, relax the supervision of him (her), so that their suicidal behavior to succeed. The suicidal behavior of depressed patients is cruel and often happens in a flash. The number of depressed patients in China now reaches
90 million. And 18 million people in the United States are reported to be suffering from depression. Of the approximately 30,000 people who die by suicide each year in the United States, most suffer from depression. In a survey conducted by the Department of Medicine at Albert Einstein University in New York City, 82% of the 100 patients admitted to the hospital after a suicide attempt suffered from endogenous depression, making depressed patients a high-risk group for suicide. In addition to the dangerous behaviors of self-injury, suicide, wounding, and killing loved ones, depressed patients may also have the risk of damaging their own reputation and that of others. Depressed patients can also have words and actions that damage their own reputation and that of others: depressed patients often put themselves on the line for their words and actions, and put many false charges on themselves, such as looking at the opposite sex and saying that they “molested” or “eye-popping” the opposite sex, and posting them everywhere “Confessions
The “confession” letter, claiming that his own “moral corruption, poor quality”, should be subject to legal sanctions, thus ruining his own reputation and the reputation of others. Depression can be transmitted to family members: The depressed mood and words and actions of depressed patients can be transmitted to their loved ones, causing them to develop inductive depression and even commit suicide. Depressed patients can cause financial disputes: Depressed patients can have memory loss due to inattention, so that they buy something without paying for it and think they have paid for it, causing disputes. Depressed patients often have various physical symptoms: such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, panic, abdominal distension, headache and dizziness, urinary frequency and urgency, weight loss, etc. Some of them also have various physical illnesses, so they often go to general hospitals for checkups, and if doctors ignore the existence of their depression symptoms and fail to give proper antidepressant treatment, the disease may be prolonged and increase the financial burden. Depressed patients with somatic diseases die almost twice as often as those without depression due to somatic diseases, and the reality is that depression leads to increased mortality from somatic diseases. Therefore, in addition to the treatment of somatic diseases, patients with depression should be given antidepressant treatment to reduce mortality. According to WHO, a statistical data from the Haver College of Public Health estimates that by 2020, depression will be the first disease of death and disability in women, or the second disease of death and disability in humans. Therefore, everyone should be concerned about their physical health and their mental health, especially about their own or their friends’ experiences and expressions of depression, and once they are found to be depressed, it is advisable to go to a specialist hospital for early treatment and early cure. Unfortunately, many people do not care about their own and others’ physical and mental health, but only about love, career, wealth and knowledge. There is an Arab saying that says it well: “Love, career, wealth, knowledge and health, the first four are all zeroes, only the last one is one”. Without physical and mental health, what to talk about love career wealth and knowledge! Schopenhauer said: “The greatest mistake all human beings can make is precisely to take health in exchange for other extraneous things”.
