Overview of peripheral facial palsy

Overview of peripheral facial palsy 1. What are the main symptoms of peripheral facial palsy? Most of the patients often suddenly find that one cheek does not move well and the mouth is crooked when washing the face or rinsing the mouth in the early morning. The forehead wrinkles disappear, the eye fissures are enlarged, the nasolabial folds are flattened, the corners of the mouth droop, and the corners of the mouth are skewed to the healthy side when the teeth are exposed. When the cheeks are puffed and whistled, the affected side of the mouth leaks air because the lips cannot be closed. When eating, food residues are often retained in the gap between the teeth and cheeks on the affected side, and saliva often flows down from that side. At the beginning of the disease, there is mostly pain around the ear; it may be accompanied by loss of taste sensation in the front 2/3 of the tongue on the affected side; hearing allergy, hearing loss, etc. 2.What are the potential triggering factors or risk factors for facial palsy? ①.  Facial nerve microcirculation disorder: The survey results show that 53% of the patients had been stimulated by cold wind and cold water on the affected side of the head before the onset of the disease, ranking first in the list of triggers. ②.  Life factors: More than 20% of patients had a history of overexertion in the days before the onset of the disease. In addition, mental and psychological stress, emotional depression or drastic changes, excessive exercise, and irregular sleep are also causative factors. ③.  Viral infections: Infectious lesions are mostly caused by the activation of herpes zoster that is latent in the dormant sensory ganglia of the facial nerve. In addition, meningitis, mumps, influenza, scarlet fever, malaria, multiple cranial neuritis, local infections, etc. can be caused. 3.Is acupuncture effective in treating peripheral facial paralysis? How much can the efficacy be? What is the prognosis? Acupuncture has been widely used as one of the effective treatments for peripheral facial palsy, which is recognized by the academic community and accepted by the majority of patients, and has a large health and economic value. Compared with oral hormones, neurotrophic agents and other western drugs with proven efficacy, the total efficiency of acupuncture therapy is more advantageous, up to 80%-90%. Therefore, acupuncture therapy for peripheral facial palsy has been listed as one of the advantages of acupuncture treatment. 4. Frequency of acupuncture treatment, course of treatment, and interval of treatment. By and large, acupuncture requires the retention of needles for 20-30 minutes, or the addition of electro-acupuncture or moxibustion, cupping or flashing jars after acupuncture, and the overall treatment time of a single session is about 40 minutes. In the acute and subacute phases (within one month of onset), treatment can be given once a day or every other day, generally once a day is better in the acute phase. In the chronic phase, once every other day is sufficient. In general, the patient can be cured after 2~3 treatments. Self-conditioning of facial palsy patients 1. Maintain good mood: it can accelerate the recovery of nerve damage. This is a normal buffering process. There is no need to panic, and you should not doubt the effectiveness of the treatment at any time and change the treatment unit frequently. 2, it is recommended that you exercise properly: you can choose some suitable sports according to your own situation. If you keep it up for a long time, your physical fitness will be improved step by step, and your susceptibility to wind and cold and your ability to resist it will be greatly enhanced. 3. Pay attention to rest:During the treatment of facial palsy, you should pay attention to rest and ensure sufficient sleep, at least 8 hours a day, preferably 10 hours. Because the repair speed of damaged nerve fibers in the sleep state is almost twice as fast as when you are awake. However, it should not be excessive. Watch less TV and Internet, avoid all kinds of mental stimulation and excessive fatigue, in order to facilitate the recovery of the disease. 4, reasonable diet: eat less greasy stagnant stomach, not easy to digest food. Eat more vegetables and fruits, such as peaches, grapes, bitter gourd, eggplant, green pepper, leek, to maintain adequate vitamin intake. Also eat some rice and noodles, coarse grains of food, to ensure that the body sufficient energy supply, to enhance the ability to resist disease. 5, every night before bed with hot water soak feet and add foot massage. 6.Functional exercises such as: opening the mouth wide, nuzzling, showing the teeth, shrugging the nose, raising the eyebrows, closing the eyes tightly, and puffing. 7.Eye care for facial palsy patients: frequently apply local antibiotic eye drops to the affected eye, such as pearl eye drops or R&S drops; apply erythromycin eye ointment or use special eye shields before going to bed at night to keep the corneal surface moist and prevent infection.
