How long does it take to get the results of a bone marrow aspiration?

How long it takes to get the results of bone marrow aspiration depends on the hospital equipment, doctor’s efficiency, patient’s condition and other factors, and needs to be analyzed on a case-by-case basis. In the case of ordinary patients, it takes about 2-3 days to wait for the results of bone marrow puncture. For patients with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndrome and acute leukemia, bone marrow biopsy, immunophenotyping and chromosomal examination are also required. Bone marrow biopsy and immunophenotyping usually take about 5 working days, and chromosome examination takes about 10-14 days. In addition, the time for the results of bone marrow aspiration is also related to the efficiency of the doctor and the hospital equipment. If the doctor’s level is higher and the equipment is advanced and complete, the results may be issued on the same day. In addition, patients generally need to restrict limb activities after the bone marrow aspiration test, and bed rest for 1 day is recommended.
