Precautions after 131 iodine treatment

  1. Fast for 2 hours after taking 131 iodine to facilitate gastric emptying of the drug and rapid absorption in the intestines.  2. Drink more water on the day of administration to facilitate rapid excretion of unabsorbed 131 iodine.  3. Let the patient take rest and avoid strain and mental stimulation as much as possible. Prevent infection to avoid aggravation of the disease.  4. For one month after treatment, prohibit iodine-containing drugs and foods. Do not rub and press the thyroid gland and eat less seafood for six months.  5. Avoid close contact with infants and children for two weeks. Female patients should not get pregnant until six months later.  6. Neck discomfort and localized swelling and pain in the thyroid gland may occur within 2-6 weeks after treatment and generally no special treatment is needed.  7, 2 months later for review.  8.After 3-5 days of treatment for severe patients, oral antithyroid drugs can be taken to reduce symptoms and treat the disease symptomatically in a timely manner.
