For some patients, gout can be painful to death! According to statistics, the ratio of men to women suffering from gout is 15:1, and gradually getting younger, the most painful for women is to give birth, the most painful for men is gout. I am not a gout patient, but because of my own occupation, I have seen many gout patients, countless tough guys lost in front of the gout, and even shed tears, I remember the most profound understanding of the pain of gout, because of a thirty-year-old man’s description: “I do not know why? My pain is particularly strong, and I’ve thought of jumping to my death many times because of the pain.” Gout, known as the king of pain, is mostly caused by a good diet but unbalanced nutrition, and in ancient times it was generally only suffered by the rich and powerful. But life in China is getting better and better, all kinds of animals are on the people’s table, the once “rich disease” is becoming more and more “people-friendly”, and the group of people suffering from it is growing. When it comes to gout, we must talk about purine and uric acid. Gout is a group of diseases caused by disorders of purine anabolism and reduced uric acid excretion and increased blood uric acid. In addition to the pain of gout, the accompanying symptoms should not be underestimated, such as arthritis, gout stones (gout stones can lead to stiff joints, deformed fingers, restricted movement and loss of function), and gouty nephropathy (crystallization may lead to acute renal failure). Purines are something that everyone cries out for in the gout community. Whenever you talk about high purine food, you shake your head, and when you see high purine food, you wave your hand. So high purine food, gout patients really can’t eat at all? As the old saying goes, anything that doesn’t look like a dose and talk about effectiveness is a hooligan. We are familiar with soybeans and their soy products, spinach, lettuce, asparagus and other common high purine vegetables, in the eyes of gout patients are “poison” like existence. However, studies have shown that although these vegetables can lead to excessive purine intake and trigger gout attacks, plant foods have much less impact on blood uric acid compared to animal foods, eating 2 pounds of beef will cause gout, eating 7-8 pounds of spinach will cause gout. So, as long as you don’t keep catching the same vegetables, eating a little in moderation is not a problem at all. In addition, an arbitrary low purine diet (avoiding all foods high in purines, including plant foods) can lead to an increased intake of fat and refined cereals, thus making people fat and increasing the risk of gout in disguise. Therefore, it is not scientific to simply discuss whether food can be eaten or not, and patients should make careful predictions and control their purine intake according to their own situation and eating habits.
