No intercourse a few days before gynecological examination

There are many items in gynecological examination, but not all of them are not allowed to have intercourse before the examination. For example, for abdominal ultrasound, having sex before the examination does not have a big impact; for routine white belt test or cervical cancer screening, it is recommended to avoid having sex 3 days before the examination to avoid affecting the examination results. Gynecological checkups usually include vaginal discharge test, cervical smear or TCT+HPV and abdominal ultrasound or negative ultrasound, etc. Sexual intercourse should be prohibited 3 days before some of these tests because sperm can cause changes in vaginal pH and also have an impact on the environment of the cervix, making the test results inaccurate. However, some examinations are not affected by intercourse, such as abdominal ultrasound, so there is no need to prohibit intercourse. However, after gynecological examination, intercourse is usually prohibited for 3-5 days to avoid infection leading to chronic cervicitis and other diseases. Before the gynecological examination, patients should pay attention to cleaning the vulva in advance, pay attention to the diet, wear loose and easy to take off clothes, and hold urine on an empty stomach for the abdominal ultrasound examination.
