How long it takes for ichthyosis to manifest itself after it has been transmitted to a child is related to the different types of ichthyosis, some of which can be detected at birth, or may appear months, or even years later.
Ichthyosis in children is mainly seen in sex-linked ichthyosis, lamellar ichthyosis, congenital ichthyosis-like erythroderma and so on.
Sex-linked ichthyosis is most common in male children, and can develop a few months after birth, manifesting itself as ichthyosiform changes in the skin of the face, neck, trunk, and limbs.
Platelet ichthyosis develops at birth or within the first few months of life and is characterized by coarse, brownish-gray scaly lesions that may be accompanied by exophthalmos.
In congenital ichthyosis erythematosus, the typical ichthyosis-like changes appear at birth and decrease with age.
Because of the individuality of the disease, a doctor’s consultation is required.
