What is the correct sitting posture?

Many patients who come to the department with TMJ disorders, especially younger patients, have significant postural abnormalities. Many patients work or study long hours and need to sit for long periods of time, but have poor sitting posture. When sitting, maintain a slight lumbar lordosis, with the head in a horizontal neutral position and the ear draped through the body’s center of gravity. The lumbar region can be padded with a soft pillow. Correct sitting posture helps to reduce the pressure within the intervertebral discs, puts the head and neck in a better position, reduces jaw recession due to head forward flexion, and helps the patient to maintain a good jaw rest position.
