What to look for in the care of ankylosing spondylitis

  Ankylosing spondylitis is a systemic disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the spinal joints, often with calcification and bony ankylosis of the intervertebral disc rings and nearby ligaments, mostly involving the sacroiliac joints in addition to the spine. Because the cause of this disease is still unknown, there is no cure to completely control the progression of ankylosing spondylitis, so in recent years more emphasis has been placed on comprehensive treatment. In addition to drug therapy, the patient’s family should focus on rehabilitation care, mainly from the following aspects: (1) ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic progressive disease, requiring long-term treatment, patients should be educated to try to choose a regular hospital, and make patients aware of the special nature of the disease and long-term, in order to mobilize the patient’s enthusiasm for treatment.
