Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common gynecological symptoms, which refers to pain and swelling in the lower abdomen before and after menstruation or during menstruation, accompanied by lumbago or other discomfort, and even affects daily work, study and quality of life in severe cases. Primary dysmenorrhea refers to dysmenorrhea without organic lesions in the reproductive organs, also known as functional dysmenorrhea, accounting for more than 90% of dysmenorrhea; secondary dysmenorrhea refers to dysmenorrhea caused by organic pelvic diseases. For primary dysmenorrhea, Western medicine is mainly symptomatic treatment, mainly pain relief, sedation, oral or intramuscular injection of pain medication for each dysmenorrhea, but this method of treatment does not fundamentally reduce the symptoms of patients, and some patients even feel “more and more pain”! Chinese medicine has obvious advantages in treating primary dysmenorrhea. According to Chinese medicine, dysmenorrhea is cyclical and is related to changes in Qi and blood during menstruation. During the non-menstrual period, the Qi and blood of the flush and the uterus are calm, and the pathogenic factors have not yet been able to cause blockage or loss of nourishment of the Qi and blood of the flush and uterus, so pain does not occur; but during or before the menstrual period, because the sea of blood is full and overflowing, the Qi and blood is strong and real and suddenly deficient, the Qi and blood of the flush and uterus change rapidly, and the pathogenic factors take advantage of the time and cause dysmenorrhea. According to the patient’s different constitution and symptoms, there are generally 6 types of symptoms: Qi stagnation and blood stasis, cold and damp stagnation, damp and heat stasis, Yang deficiency and internal cold, Qi and blood weakness, liver and kidney deficiency, etc. The first 3 types of symptoms are actual and the pain is more severe.
