Some advice for parents of children with autism spectrum disorders

At the training sessions for parents with autism spectrum disorders held at the center, we met many parents who were eager to learn how to help their children, and we would like to give them some suggestions for reference: 1. There is no universal training program for all children, but for each specific child, there must be an individualized training program, but the principles and principles of training are similar. 3, before training must do a more comprehensive psychological assessment of the child, and then, according to the results of the assessment, a targeted plan for the child’s level of development and ability, once the child’s training plan is implemented, we must carefully implement the plan, and if problems are found, promptly find the causes and make reasonable adjustments in a timely manner. Training for a period of time, then do an assessment to understand the child’s progress and develop the next training program. 4, the goal of training must be practical, for the child’s daily life can be used in the skills, for example, teaching children to eat by themselves, said the toilet and other life skills, to be more priority than simply teach children to know words. 5.Parents should not easily take a chance and wishfully think that their children will naturally get better when they grow up, and delay the best time for early intervention for their children. 6, for the child’s good behavior, to give positive praise and attention in a timely manner, for the child’s problem behavior, should be behavior correction, avoid scolding the child, and not just criticize him wrong, not allowed, but to demonstrate to the child to see, so that he understands what the correct approach is. And, family members should be consistent in their approach and attitude towards dealing with the child’s problem behavior. 7.It is recommended that parents seek professional help, such as: regular outpatient follow-up visits, keep close contact with teachers, and strive for multi-party cooperation to form a synergy to better help their children. 8, for the child has mastered the skills also need to generalize, learn new knowledge skills at the same time, to review and consolidate the existing knowledge skills. Avoid learning one and losing one.
