It usually takes about 2 to 3 days from the appearance of the hard chancre to ulceration. However, the exact time depends largely on the severity of the individual’s condition. The chancre is a manifestation of stage 1 syphilis, a chronic infectious disease caused primarily by infection with the spirochete syphilis.
Typical symptoms of chancre begin with a small red spot on the skin that rapidly develops into a painless inflammatory papule. Within a few days, the papule enlarges and forms a hard knot, and necrosis occurs on the surface, resulting in a round or oval painless ulcer, which can take about 2-3 days.
During this time there is a plasma discharge containing a large number of syphilitic spirochetes, which is extremely contagious and can last for 3 to 4 weeks or more without treatment.
If you have a hard chancre, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible for treatment, follow the doctor’s instructions for medication, avoid blindly abusing medication on your own, and prohibit sexual intercourse at the same time.
