The prognosis for gallbladder cancer is poor, with the overall 5-year survival rate for patients still struggling to exceed 10%. The high malignancy of the tumour and the lack of effective treatments are important factors limiting the overall poor prognosis of gallbladder cancer.
As the disease progresses, the overall 5-year survival rate after treatment for stage IVa and IVb patients is only 4% and 2% respectively. This indicates a significant decline in the overall survival rate of gallbladder cancer as the disease progresses. Therefore, early diagnosis and effective treatment of gallbladder cancer is an important measure to improve the overall prognosis of patients with gallbladder cancer.
