When to put stents for esophageal cancer

Surgery is the most important treatment for patients with esophageal cancer, followed by radiotherapy. As the treatment of middle and upper esophageal cancer, radiotherapy is a very important tool, and chemotherapy treatment is relatively less effective. The indications for guiding stent therapy are mainly patients who have lost the indication for surgery. In order to improve the quality of survival and solve the problem of eating, using esophageal stent placement is a very good means. When esophagotracheal fistula occurs in patients with advanced esophageal cancer, esophageal stenting can well seal the basket opening, improve lung infection and prolong patients’ life. Some patients with esophageal cancer will have tumor surface rupture and bleeding when they grow to a certain extent. For such patients with tumor rupture and bleeding, esophageal stent placement can also play the role of compression to stop bleeding.
