How long can a person live with esophageal cancer?

The survival time of patients with esophageal cancer varies significantly. If diagnosed early and treated with surgery in time, they can survive for 3-5 years or even longer. For progressive esophageal cancer or metastasis of distant organs or invasion of adjacent organs when diagnosed, the survival time varies from six months to one year. The typical symptoms of esophageal cancer are pain behind the sternum, obvious difficulty in swallowing after eating, lymph node metastasis and invasion of adjacent tissues and organs, and later on, gastrointestinal bleeding. Early diagnosis can choose radical transabdominal right thoracic esophageal cancer surgery, and postoperative supplemental treatment is also needed. For advanced stage patients who have lost the opportunity of surgical treatment after diagnosis, radiation therapy can also be chosen, along with duodenal nutrient tube placement, which can prolong the survival time of patients to a certain extent.
