Loss of voice is the inability to generate speech caused by organic or emotional disorders, and dysphonia caused by lesions in the laryngeal muscles or vocal folds. The symptoms are that the patient’s voice becomes low in pitch when speaking, the voice is weak, and in severe cases, no voice can be produced. Loss of voice is mostly caused by wind-cold or wind-heat-fire toxin and other evil offenses to the larynx, kidney yin deficiency, lung deficiency and weakness of qi, or divine disorder and qi stagnation. It is commonly found in laryngeal mute, laryngeal fungus gas syncope, laryngeal polyp, diphtheria, sub mute and other diseases. Loss of voice can be distinguished from violent mute and prolonged mute. Outpatient is mostly due to external sensation and sudden onset of disease. Due to the wind-cold and wind-heat evil attacking the lung guard, the lung qi cannot be dispersed; or feeling the evil of dryness and heat, burning the fluid; or eating fatty, sweet and thick flavors, drinking and smoking, resulting in the internal production of phlegm and heat, the lung is not purified, which can make the voice not come out. Long-term mute is mostly caused by internal injury and slow onset, mostly due to deficiency of the body in long-term illness, lung dryness and fluid injury, or deficiency of lung and kidney yin, internal seizure of essence, and dryness and astringency of the vocal tract. The loss of voice is often manifested as sudden loss of voice or only whispering sound, but the voice is often as normal when coughing or crying and laughing. Most patients recover suddenly after treatment, a few can recover on their own, and there are also cases of recurrence after healing.
