Ankylosing Spondylitis Features

Ankylosing spondylitis belongs to the category of “paralysis” in Chinese medicine, which is characterized by pain in the lumbar spine, swelling and pain in the joints, restriction in the movement of both hips, and even stiffness of the lumbar spine and deformation of the spine. Traditionally, it is believed that this disease is due to deficiency of endowment, deficiency of liver and kidney, wind, cold, dampness, heat and other evil spirits taking advantage of the deficiency, involving the kidney meridian, the bladder meridian and the Governor’s Vessel, thus classifying this disease as “kidney paralysis”, “bone paralysis”, “tortoise back” and “Governor’s Vessel disease”. This disease is classified as “kidney paralysis,” “bone paralysis,” “tortoise back,” “vascular disease,” and so on. Ankylosing spondylitis is the key disease and advantage of our department. Under the leadership of Prof. Ding-Ya Fang, our department has summarized the experience of our predecessors, absorbed the research results of modern medicine, and made reference to the pathology of Chinese and Western medicine, and after years of clinical practice, we are the first to propose the academic view that this disease belongs to the category of “tendon paralysis” in Chinese medicine. In terms of treatment, we have proposed the academic theory of “relieving spasm and relieving the dou” as the main treatment for ankylosing spondylitis, which has been repeatedly clinically verified and formed a more complete treatment system.
