Supervised moxibustion for ankylosing spondylitis

The concept of Governor’s Moxibustion: Governor’s Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine external treatment for ankylosing spondylitis by isolating the spinal segment of the Governor’s Vessel with foaming moxibustion. It is characterized by no injections, no medication, no surgery, no plasters, and requires dietary regulation and functional exercise. It is the result of Professor Chong Guiqin’s theory of “the disease is in the veins and the treatment is on the bones” and “the disease is in the bones, needles and medicine iron” combined with the pathological characteristics of ankylosing spondylitis. The advantages of moxibustion are that it integrates the comprehensive effects of meridians, Yu points, drugs, moxibustion and foaming, and gives full play to the effects of benefiting the kidneys and opening up the governor, warming the kidneys and strengthening the yang, penetrating the bones and penetrating the muscles, pulling out the toxins and dispersing the knots, moving the qi and breaking the stasis, opening up the paralysis and relieving the pain. The effect of moxibustion is to increase the level of neuroimmune peptide in the thalamus, which plays a central analgesic role; to down-regulate the abnormal expression of the pathologically elevated HLA-B27 gene; to reduce bone destruction and control inflammation; to balance the disordered immune function; to regulate the activity of NK cells; and to repair the deformed spine. Duration of treatment of supervised moxibustion: once a month (3 hours each time), three times for a course of treatment.
