Awareness of the pathogenesis and treatment recommendations for ankylosing spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a disease that predominantly affects young men, with genetic factors being the main cause. It mostly affects joint mobility and causes inconvenience and mental confusion to patients. The ultimate pathogenesis is not clear. Chinese medicine recognizes this disease from its own theoretical system. It is believed that ankylosing spondylitis is a disease of deficiency in the liver and kidneys, which is really silt, blood, and phlegm. AS begins with pain in the spinal segments and nearby muscles, or hip pain, or knee pain, or pain and discomfort in any joint, with no obvious abnormality in the bone on imaging, as the disease is in the liver; later the bone becomes ankylosed and deformed, as the disease enters the kidney. Through years of clinical observation, the effect of immunosuppressive therapy for AS is not ideal, at least for some patients. AS is a chronic process, which must be taken seriously and treated consistently to prevent it. After a few years, there is a clear difference in prognosis between taking medication and not taking medication. Patients with AS should remember: avoid cold, be active, treat early and adhere to treatment to prevent ankylosis.
