Focus on the mental health of the elderly

With the acceleration of China’s population aging process, how to improve the quality of life of the majority of the elderly and the quality of life of the group level, has gradually attracted the attention of the whole society. Especially with the gradual improvement of material and cultural living standards in China, the life expectancy of the elderly group has gradually increased, and a scientific information shows that 85% of the elderly people have more or less different degrees of psychological problems, which is much higher than the average level of the general population. Paying attention to the mental health of the elderly has become a matter that needs to be put on the agenda of all sectors of society. In old age, all parts of the body and organs, including the brain, will gradually age with age and decline in function, such as presbyopia, hearing loss, mobility, graying or loss of hair, metabolic decline, low immunity, hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular neurological disease, etc. This is the normal physiological changes of the elderly, at the same time, can also occur in the psychological changes. The psychological changes of the elderly have the following characteristics: 1, emotional changes: some elderly people become suspicious and sentimental, easily agitated, moving to tears, because of small things and tantrums, always feel uncomfortable with things around, not satisfied; stubborn, self-righteous; some become depressed, bitter and depressed, depressed mood.     2, intellectual changes: memory is often diminished, with recent memory more obvious, can not remember new events, and feel a lack of energy and brain power, spatial concepts and abstract understanding, analysis and generalization ability are reduced, computing ability will also be slow and sluggish, easy to make mistakes, new knowledge is difficult to accept, the telephone can not play, can not use the computer can not access the Internet. Including Alzheimer’s disease also belongs to the category of psychological disease. 3, personality change 4, excessive concern for their own health level, the elderly often have a lot of physical diseases, worried about the sudden death, without identification to buy a lot of books on health, very sensitive to the symptoms of physical discomfort, moving to the hospital repeatedly check treatment. 5, loneliness, nowadays young people are busy at work and have less time to visit their parents at home. This makes many elderly people feel lonely and helpless and emotionally vulnerable. At present, about 1/3 of the elderly families have “empty nest” phenomenon, and it is still increasing. The empty nest phenomenon has led to a new medical term, “empty nest syndrome”, which causes depression in the elderly. In addition to the above psychological characteristics, there are also some psychological conflicts and contradictions that cause psychological problems among the elderly in today’s society. 1, role change and social adaptation contradictions This is the contradiction brought by the elderly after retirement. Although retirement and divorce are a normal role change, the psychological feelings of people in different occupational groups about retirement are very different. The psychological feelings of workers before and after retirement do not change much. After retirement, they are free from heavy physical labor and have more time to take care of household chores, have fun and make friends, and have enough pensions and publicly funded medical care, so they are more satisfied, more emotionally stable and well adjusted to society. However, the situation of retired cadres is very different. Before they retired, these old cadres had a high social status and extensive social connections, and the focus of their lives was on organs and careers, but after they retired or left, the focus of their lives became family chores, and their extensive social connections suddenly decreased, which made them feel very uncomfortable and unadapted. 2, the contradiction between active aging and physical and mental aging Many elderly people with high ambition are not in good physical and mental health. They either have serious physical aging, or suffer from a variety of diseases, and some are very obvious in the decline of perception, memory, thinking and other mental abilities. This makes these elderly people form a contradiction between their ambition and aging, and some of them are in deep distress and anxiety for this reason. 3. The contradiction between old age and inadequate economic security According to some foreign studies, the lack of independent economic sources or reliable economic security is an important cause of psychological distress among the elderly. Generally speaking, the lack of economic income and low social status thus makes such elderly people prone to low self-esteem. They are also depressed, cautious and prone to sadness. The contradiction between having a secure old age and insufficient economic security is both a social and psychological contradiction. 4.The contradiction between living a peaceful life and unexpected stimulation Old people want to spend their old age peacefully and happily, and most of them want to live a long life, but this good wish and the unexpected blow and major stimulation in actual life often form a strong contrast and deep contradiction. The elderly often face the pain of widowhood, spousal quarrels, the death of friends and relatives, in-laws and daughters-in-law, sudden serious illnesses and other unexpected stimuli, which are also very serious blow to the mind of the elderly. So how to solve the psychological aspects of the elderly? From the personal side 1, cultivate hobbies 2, more sports. 3.Be kind-hearted and generous to others. 4.Study diligently, use your brain scientifically, especially be good at using scientific knowledge to guide health care. 5, maintain optimism, maintain curiosity, always maintain a positive mental state From the family side Many children think that filial piety to the elderly is to give more money, so that he can eat well and wear well. In fact, what the elderly value most is family and affection. No matter how busy they are at work, children should often go home to see and spend time with the elderly and strengthen communication with them. When there is something to do, more communication and communication with the elderly, so that the elderly have a sense of need and attention. Social aspects We should strengthen publicity and promote the fine tradition of respecting and loving the elderly. Take active and strong measures to achieve the continuous improvement of the quality of life and physical and mental health of the majority of the elderly group level. Build more senior activity centers, senior universities, etc., and encourage some public welfare institutions to participate in the work of caring for the elderly. Strengthen the construction of community elderly culture and increase some elderly psychological counseling and medical institutions to solve the mental and psychological diseases of the elderly. In order to adapt to the aging problem of our Xuzhou city and to better solve the mental-psychological problems of the elderly, our hospital has set up the first and second geriatric departments to serve the elderly in the city. If friends in front of the radio have questions about the psycho-psychological aspects of the elderly can go to our hospital for consultation and treatment. I believe that through the joint efforts of the elderly individuals, as well as their families and society, more elderly people will be able to grow old and enjoy their twilight years peacefully.
