Positioning for esophageal cancer surgery

Posture is a posture adopted by patients when resting and adapting to the requirements of medical care. Proper posture has a good effect on treating diseases, alleviating symptoms, reducing complications and relieving fatigue. The incidence of esophageal cancer is high in China, and due to the special features of anastomosis and surgery, there are high requirements on the position of patients. This is comfortable and less prone to adverse reactions, and also facilitates surgical operations. After the first postoperative day, it is recommended that the patient be placed in a semi-recumbent position at 15°-35° to facilitate sputum evacuation and to reduce gastric reflux, which is helpful for drainage, but it is not recommended that the patient raise his head more than 15°, as this will easily result in greater tension on the anastomosis and increase the chance of anastomotic fistula.
