Patients with diabetic ketoacidosis should be rehydrated as soon as possible to restore blood volume, correct water loss, and correct electrolyte and acid-base balance imbalance, followed by early insulin supplementation on top of general supportive therapy.
This can effectively lower blood glucose, inhibit ketone body production and alleviate metabolic disorders, while avoiding the risks associated with a rapid decrease in blood glucose, potassium and plasma osmolality. Once the associated symptoms are controlled, the causative factors need to be actively sought and eliminated.
