Who is a counseling client

In the traditional concept of psychological counseling, people are very accustomed to the idea that whoever has a psychological problem, who seeks counseling, who is the psychological counseling seeker, in fact. The limitations of this concept are very great: only when the psychological problems of the person concerned are not very serious and do not affect his self-knowledge and sense of responsibility, will he take the initiative to seek counseling. In fact, many more persistent, complex and serious psychological problems have already affected the self-knowledge and sense of responsibility of the person concerned, who either does not recognize his own problems, or is unwilling to admit to himself that he has a psychological problem for the sake of his face, or The person concerned either does not recognize his own problems, or is unwilling to admit that he has psychological problems for fear of losing face, or thinks that all the problems are caused by other people, and is not willing to take the responsibility for the problems. Not only will he not take the initiative to seek counseling, but even if his family members ask him to go for counseling, he will not actively cooperate, or even flatly refuse and angrily fight against it. For such a situation, we must adjust the basic concept of psychological counseling: psychological counseling is not only focusing on who has psychological problems, but also pay more attention to who has more mental health resources: who is willing to actively take responsibility for the problems of other family members, who is willing to other family members to pay more efforts, who is willing to other family members of the problem of vainly seeking psychological counseling, who is willing to other family members of the problem of sincere and sincere for the problems of other family members to seek counseling. Whoever is willing to sincerely reflect on themselves and make positive changes for the sake of other family members’ problems is the owner of the mental health resources, that is, the person who seeks psychological counseling. The resource-oriented counselor will discuss with the client specific solutions, methods, techniques and skills to help other family members, and through the client’s continuous efforts to repair the channels of emotional communication within the family, so as to help members with psychological problems. Therefore, this kind of resource-oriented counseling is also called indirect counseling or systemic counseling. In other words, the person seeking counseling is no longer the one with psychological problems, but the one who contributes to the psychological problems of other family members and promotes the health and harmony of the family.
