How many days after colon polyp surgery can you eat normally?

How long it takes to resume normal diet after colon polyp surgery depends on the patient’s surgical condition, some patients can eat normally 24 hours after surgery, while some patients can resume normal diet 3-5 days after surgery. The surgical treatment of colon polyps mainly includes colonic polyp removal and submucosal resection. Patients with colonic polyp removal can eat water and soft food 2-4 hours after surgery, and can resume normal diet after 24 hours. In contrast, patients undergoing submucosal resection need to fast for 48-72 hours after surgery and be closely monitored for adverse reactions, such as abdominal distention, abdominal pain, black stools and bloody stools. If the patient recovers well, he or she can drink water and eat a liquid diet for 48-72 hours. Normal diet can be resumed after about 1-2 more days of observation without complications. In addition, patients should also note that they should avoid resuming diet too early after surgery, with a liquid diet in the early stage and abstain from spicy and stimulating foods.
