Do you know anything about ankylosing spondylitis?

Ankylosing spondylitis is usually invaded by the sacroiliac joint first and focuses on the spine, eventually leading to bony ankylosis of the spine, so it is now mostly called ankylosing spondylitis at home and abroad. In Chinese medicine, this disease is considered to be a bone paralysis within the category of paralysis. The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine says: “Bone paralysis is not over, and the feeling is not evil, and the kidneys are surrendered internally.” It also says: “Bone paralysis is a condition in which the heel is replaced by the coccyx, and the head is replaced by the spine.” This is quite similar to the clinical manifestations of ankylosing spondylitis, such as spinal column straightening, mobility problems, and hunchback deformity. Ancestral medicine believes that the kidney is the master of bone and essence, and that essence produces marrow. If the kidney essence is sufficient, the bone marrow has a source of biochemistry, and the bones are strong and powerful because they are supported by the marrow. On the contrary, if the kidney essence is insufficient, the bone marrow has no source of biochemistry and the bone and iliac is weak and fragile. Kidney yin deficiency, then the yang is not solid, easy to feel the external evil, wind, damp and cold evil to take advantage of the weakness of the entry, that is, bone paralysis. It is advisable to dispel the wind and cold, to promote the circulation of dampness, to invigorate the blood and relax the tendons, and to tonify the kidney and strengthen the bones. The majority of ankylosing spondylitis develops in youth, and the onset is often insidious; it is rare in those over 40 years of age. In women, the lesions develop slowly and diagnosis is often delayed. Ankylosing spondylitis is a systemic disease and may have systemic symptoms such as anorexia, low-grade fever, fatigue, weight loss and mild anemia. 2) Local manifestations, lower back pain and spinal stiffness are the most common manifestations. Lower back pain occurs slowly and is dull and painful, with no clear indication of where the pain is, sometimes involving the buttocks. The pain can also be severe, concentrated around the sacroiliac joint, radiating to the iliac crest, the greater trochanter and the posterior femur, and may be bilateral or unilateral at first, but becomes bilateral after a few months, with lower back stiffness. Morning stiffness is a very common symptom and can last up to several hours. Prolonged inactivity makes the stiffness more pronounced, and patients often complain of difficulty getting up due to the stiffness and pain, and can only get up by turning to the side and rolling off the edge of the bed. Some patients have mild pain, only morning stiffness and lumbar muscle ligament pressure points, and are often diagnosed as “rheumatic pain”, “fibrositis”, or even considered to have “neurosis”. Those with radiating pain to the legs have also been diagnosed as “lumbago” and “sciatica” for a long time.
