Introduction to “functional movement” and “movement function”

For patients with central nervous system injuries (such as stroke, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy), the phrases “functional movement” and “motor function” should not be unfamiliar, but according to my personal clinical experience, most of these patients are very confused about these two concepts. I think this is the sadness of patients’ rehabilitation, and also the sadness of many people who are engaged in the rehabilitation of such disorders. The term “functional movement” refers to functional movement, meaning movement, which can be a single movement or a combination of movements; “motor function” refers to the function of movement. The main meaning of “functional movement” refers to the function of movement, meaning some kind of ability, which is commonly known as the ability to move. Second, the connotation of rehabilitation medicine refers to different, but there is a necessary connection between the two. “Functional movement” refers to functional movement, specifically refers to the actual function (to complete the function of daily life and work) of the movement or combination of movements, rather than the central nervous system after the emergence of coarse, stereotyped pattern of movement (common movement); “motor function “, that is, the function of movement, rehabilitation medicine refers to the motor function simply means the ability to complete functional movement, generally are the ability to complete functional movement to assess the motor function of patients with CNS injury. Functional movement is especially important for patients with central nervous system injury, no functional movement will only strengthen the abnormal movement pattern, not to improve the purpose of motor function, no benefit to improve the patient’s ability to take care of themselves (life, work, study, etc.)!
