The relationship between emotions and health

Human beings have entered an extraordinary era of emotional burden, and psychosomatic disorders caused by mental factors have become a widespread disease and epidemic in contemporary society. Such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, gastric ulcer, asthma, etc.. Emotional and mental health care must be taken seriously and should not be treated lightly. Our ancestors recognized the close relationship between emotions and diseases of internal organs as early as in the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine, and discussed the effects of seven emotions on the human body: happiness, anger, sadness, pity, fear and fear. If anger is the will of the liver, excessive anger will hurt the liver, anger will be qi up, then the clinical common dizziness and dizziness, insomnia, etc., depression and anger hurt the liver, liver qi transverse, often offend the spleen and stomach, may appear nausea and vomiting, chest tightness and uncomfortable, the epigastric distention and fullness, do not want to eat and other symptoms of liver and spleen disorder, liver and stomach disharmony. The heart is the master of joy, joy is big and sad, joy is slow, sudden ecstasy can lead to dissipation of heart Qi, blood flow is weak and stagnant, palpitations, insomnia, forgetfulness, and even epilepsy. In the lighter cases, depression, few words, melancholy, depression, sitting alone and sighing; in the heavier cases, depression or nervousness, irritability in the heart, and can lead to coughing, asthma, vomiting, loss of appetite, insomnia, constipation and other symptoms, and even induce cancer or other difficult and serious diseases. Zhang Zhongjing of the Han Dynasty discussed in his “Jin Gui Yao Liu” that the disease of lily and the disease of running dolphin is the disease of physical and behavioral disorders caused by emotions. For example, “the dolphin disease, from the less abdominal, up the throat, seizures want to die, and again stop, all from the panic.” “Running dolphin, Qi rushes up to the chest, abdominal pain, cold and fever, running dolphin soup is the main.” The condition described is very similar to modern panic attacks and anxiety states. Another example is “the lily disease, one of the hundred veins, all to its disease. He wants to eat, but can not eat again, often silent, want to lie down can not lie down, want to walk can not walk; food may have beautiful time, or do not have to smell food stink; such as cold without cold, such as hot without heat; mouth bitter, urine red; all medicines can not be cured, get the medicine then sharp vomiting. If there is a divine spirit, but the body shape is like peace, and its pulse is faint.” The condition described is very consistent with the restlessness of anxiety patients, accompanied by a series of emotional, sleep and dietary problems, and physical symptoms such as fever and chills, bitterness in the mouth and frequent urination, but “the body shape is like harmony”, so painful that no organic disease can be detected by any examination. From the above, we can see that our ancestral medicine has already systematically elaborated a more complete theory of psychosomatic medicine, in line with the modern medical model of biopsychosocial medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine has a very good role in regulating emotions while regulating internal organs and blood and treating physical diseases, such as our commonly used Zhuangyao San and Chaihu Shuhepian, which are good emotional regulators. Emotions and health are so close, how to effectively manage emotions is more beneficial to health? First of all, appropriate expression of their emotions, such as the painful emotions of the loss of a loved one, we should enjoy to grieve, if we think that pain is a negative emotion and suppress, but to cause harm to our body. Secondly, in most cases, any emotion is a bundle of a feeling and a perception, change the bad perception behind the emotion, the bad emotion will then disappear. For example, depression is a feeling of unhappiness, and its perception is that something bad has happened; fear is a feeling of fear plus the perception that something frightening is happening; anxiety is a feeling of irritability and fidgeting plus the perception that something terrible is going to happen. Try to change the perception, the mood will change. For example, if you violate the rules and regulations of your company, and unfortunately you are bumped into by the leader, who then scolds you, your emotions will be complicated, such as depression, fear and anxiety, and you will think: Why am I so unlucky? You may think: “Why am I so unlucky? I was caught by the big boss, it’s over. If you think like this: he is not for me, the rules and regulations are for everyone, if I am the leader will also be angry, today may be a bad mood, so big reaction, I pay attention to it in the future. Thinking this way, your emotions may be just a little upset. Again, if you really can’t handle your excessive emotional reactions, it is wise to seek the help of a psychotherapist in order to prevent causing further physical damage. Psychological counseling is a modern day spiritual treat, and a psychologist can help us all clean out our mental waste in time to live a more relaxed, happy and confident life. Medication can also be dispensed as needed.
